ABOUT CHELYROO

If you were expecting something deep or inspirational or revolutionary behind the brand name Chelyroo, or wondering if it meant something in another language, I'm sorry to disappoint but this was purely a word I created in a Eureka! moment. Me being me, I didn't want to brand myself simply by my name ;  as uncommon as my last name is, there's still probably another Cheryl Poh out there.

I digress, but anyways, Chelyroo, pronounced as [share-ler-roo], comes from the first three letters of my name and the last three, backwards (pretty lame but it works). The 'roo' part just came from my love for Kangaroos and how my last name, when spelt backwards, is the main mode of movement of kangaroos. It's pretty lame, but I think that encapsulates my personality :D

ABOUT THE HUMAN BEHIND THE CAMERA

Cheryl started delving into photography more seriously in March 2021 , deciding to cave in to purchase her very first camera, the Canon 850D, just within a few weeks. Some may call it an impulsive move, as after all, a camera is quite a costly endeavour, especially for a student who's not yielding an income, but she has never looked back since. She picked up the basics of photography and editing through mostly Youtube videos and occasionally Udemy courses and would say she's proficient in Adobe Lightroom, and has basic knowledge (work in progress) of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.  Currently, as of the end of her A'levels, Cheryl is working on her photography, videography and editing skills  .

Cheryl enjoys exploring a variety of photography and editing styles--moody, dreamy, pastel, vibrant... She loves her colours and derives great satisfaction from making them pop during the post-production process. One of Cheryl's greatest inspirations is photographer Nguan, who paints Singapore in pastel, dreamy hues, and filmmakers Wes Anderson and Wong Kar Wai for their unique cinematography.

Inquisitive and curious by nature (read: kaypoh), Cheryl loves people-watching and engaging in deep thought about what stories they have to share. Regardless of status, experiences and occupation, everyone has a story. And the fact that so many stories go untold is one of the factors driving Cheryl to shoot. Through Photography, she hopes to tell stories in their purest, rawest and most candid forms.

Outside of Photography, Cheryl dabbles in a little bit of everything. She does artsy stuff, plays the piano  and being the curious learner she is, she enjoys learning and reading up about speech therapy, psychology and linguistics, physics, etcetera etcetera.
